Pragmatics of intentional omission in a film synopsis
... semantic gaps and implicatures. Importantly, it affects any element, including the inciting incident, personages and spatial and temporal settings. The findings reveal that the intentional omission is predominantly implicit and the employment of inference cannot fill all semantic gaps, thus intrigue is preserved. However, in some film synopses intrigue is expressed explicitly. Our findings show the range of linguistic markers signaling the intentional omission of information in sample texts. ...
Wanderings in Syllogistic Figures: On Kant’s Possible Cognitive Syllogistics
... “ontological” syllogisms are distinguished by the type of relation that obtains between parts of the premises. An ontological syllogism, unlike the formal kind, conforms to the most stringent rules in terms of content. The procedure of making an inference, even according to a perfect figure, is described as ‘composite’, involving, as it does, the transformation of a formal syllogism into an ontological one, or the supplementing of the formal syllogism with an intermediate inference which ...
Business letter in the system of regional documents in the middle of the 18th century
The development of the business letter as a separate type of documents is the issue the present article focuses on. The material for the study is collected in the Volgograd Oblast State Archive (Fund 332, Inventory 1). The linguistic and documentary analysis of business letters dating back to the middle of the 18th century, when Cossack administrative entities incorporated into the state social-and-political system of Russia, was carried out. It was aimed at determining the status of business letters...

... syllogistics and attempts to answer the question as to why Aristotle did not become the founder of logical hylomorphism. It is argued that, as a metatheory, Aristotelian syllogistics addresses formal relations between the perfect and imperfect rules of inference rather than the canonical structures of categorical statements. Peculiarities of Kant’s Interpretation of the Term ‘Consequence’
... consequence in Kant’s terminology is Folgerung, which denotes ‘following’ in logical and nonlogical contexts. I have also analysed related concepts: Folge, Abfolge, folglich etc., established dif- ferences between logical terms with similar meaning ‘inference’ (Schluss) and ‘conclusion’ (Konklusion). Finally, I make an attempt to formulate the problem of logical consequence in formal logic through the logical terms Schlussfolge, Folgerung and Konsequenz. On the strength of my analysis I propose ...

Eschatological intertexts in E.Wichert’s report from “Dead forest”
The authors analyse the complex genre specificity of the art report “Der Totenwald”, written by Ernst Wiechert after his imprisonment in Buchenwald concentration camp. Three basic intertextual links of this text with Dante’s “The Divine Comedy”, Dostoevsky’s “The House of the Dead” and “Revelation of John” are considered. The authors emphasize the issue of two disjunctive ontologies, forming two fundamental cultural codes of the artistic process in the culture of Germany and Russia.

Critical survey of some cognitive semantic theories in the dynamic semantic context by A. F. Losev
The article provides a critical analysis of some cognitive semantics theories, particularly the prototype theory and the theory of dynamic construal. It is stated that the source of the theory of dynamic conceptual semantics were formulated in the works by A. F. Losev and G. Guillaume’s mental grammar.

Language as a system of world outlook in A. Losev’s conception
The paper considers some of the notions of the language philosophy put forward by A. Losev in his earlier works “Philosophy of Name” and “Thing of Name” and those of the later period. Many of his theoretical postulates advanced as early as at the beginning of the 1930s have much in common with the ideas of cognitive linguistics developed in the XX—XXI cc.

Concept integration modelling as a means of phraseological unit formation
The paper focuses on cognitive processes of phraseological units (colour terms) formation based on the theories of the conceptual metaphor and conceptual integration. Special attention is given to the modified units the meaning of which cannot be inferred from their components. Cognitive mechanisms underlying this type of phraseological units are identified.

On the Poetic Dispute between Paul Celan and Johannes Bobrowski
The main purpose of this work is to explore the experience of confronting guilt ‘after Auschwitz’ in the creative dialogue between two significant poets of the twentieth century — Paul Celan and Johannes Bobrowski. Despite their importance, their works remain inadequately studied, particularly in the context of the interaction between language and existence, or more precisely, poetic semiotics and the ontological foundation of existence. Sander Gilman, an American Germanist, in his work “Why and...
Pure and Impure Philosophy in Kant’s Metaphilosophy
Kant’s metaphilosophy has three main parts: (1) an essentialist project (“What is philosophy?”); (2) a methodological project (“How do we do philosophy?”); and (3) a taxonomic project (“What are the different parts of philosophy, and how are they related?”). This paper focuses on the third project. In particular, it explores one of the most intriguing yet puzzling aspects of Kant’s philosophy, viz. the relationship between what Kant calls ‘pure’ philosophy vs. ‘applied’, ‘empirical’ or what we can...

Inferences of understanding and reason as factors of textuality in I. Kant's philosophical discourse

Kant's discourse. Moreover, they give assertoric and apodictic modality to Kant's discourse.
