The findings demonstrate that a substantial proportion of Votic and Ingrian personal name forms derive not from canonical Christian names, but from their Russian dialectal variants, highlighting the complex nature of interlingual contact. Differences in the operation of adaptation mechanisms between Votic and Ingrian are shown to stem from the specific phonological and morphological structures of each language. Particular attention is devoted to processes of vocalic and consonantal adaptation, including consonant gemination, palatalization, and epenthesis. Morphological aspects of adaptation are also described, notably the use of the ancient Finnic ...

The possibility of translation as the criterion of language development
... aspects connected with the notion of language development. It is mentioned that among the criteria, defining its level, the possibility of rendering foreign texts (both literal ad special) is often used. In connection with this problem some views of Russian and foreign authors are analyzed. It is postulated that the possibility of any given language to function as a target language depends mainly not on the factors of pure linguistic but rather extralinguistic character. The subjective moment (the competence of translators) plays an important role as well.
