Verbs of delimitative manner of action based on the data of the national corpus of the Russian language: The system and usage

Abstract

This article shows that the delimitative class of verbs can be expanded through involving new groups of motivating verbs. This process becomes more active in the conditions where the impact of usage is more pronounced. The author establishes that delimitatives acquire special functional-stylistic yield in modern written language and act as a “code word” indicative of socially marked narration.

The functional features of metadiscription of beliefs in a literary text: The case of I. S. Turgenev’s works

Abstract

This article considers the topical linguistic problem of metalinguistic potential of a natural language and identifies the cases of its specific functional tensions (the description of nonverbal signals designed within the ideal spacetime of a literary text). The chosen methodological approaches to the problem are new, however, they are based on the concepts developed by specialists in the field of applied psychology and semiotics, on the one hand, and prominent Russian linguists, on the other.

The cyclical nature of time in B. Zaitsev’s short story St Nicholas Street: The means of linguistic and image representation

Abstract

This article examines the concept of time in B. Zaitesev’s short story “St Nicholas Street” and the means of its linguistic and image representation. The author considers the correlation of cyclic, biographical, and historical time and the category of the eternal, as well as the means of linear time cyclisation and comes to a conclusion about the meaning and text forming role of the cyclic time model.
