The problem of meaning in Social Semiotics: deep semiotics as a conceptual extension of Social Semiotics
... upon a causal relationship, and symbols on social conventions. Language is the most important system of symbolisation. Indeed, language serves as a guide to the systems of rules, values, and socio-cultural practices. In this paper, I present a model of deep semiotics, which is interpreted as a semantic structure of social experience objectified into a sign. This structure includes the material form, the referential meaning, and the personal meaning (attitudes and experiences) of the sign. This model describes the levels and dynamics of the ...

The cognitive structures of the concept of SUCCESS in the Russian common mentality
The paper attempts to reconstruct the deep cognitive principles underlying the idea of success among native speakers of the Russian language. To this end, the concept of SUCCESS is examined in two aspects — onomasiology and deep semantics. For the first time, two models of success in the Russian linguistic mentality are identified, and the cognitive foundations of the semantic evolution of words included in the word-formation-etymological nest of the word success are shown. The ...

Semantic invariants of prophetic dreams and signs
The authors prove the possibility of revealing semantic invariants of prophetic dreams and folk signs. The study shows that such invariants do exist, and they stay with the other side of the language, belong to the deep sphere of human mentality (unconscious), have a special sign nature (they are both semantic signs and images). From this point of view, the problem of synchronicity — acausal semantic coincidences, is considered. The article suggests that the ...

... Vygotsky, Xue Jin, Li Feng, and others. The analysis of 214 characters has revealed the basic mechanisms of weakening. The general scientific methods are as follows: grapheme analysis to study the structural components of the hieroglyphic sign, semantic and etymological analysis to trace the evolution of the form and meaning of a character. The research has revealed the following weakening mechanisms: simplification, complication, preservation. These changes in form trigger semantic variations ...

Frame approach to analysing the semantisation of the biblical quasi-anthroponym prodigal son in the language of Russian poetry
This article describes ways to semanticise the biblical quasi-anthroponym ‘prodigal son’ in a poetic text, using the frame approach as a means of cognitive modelling and description. This approach helps to identify and characterise meaning construction mechanisms in a precedent onomastic sign, which conveys the conceptual meanings of the biblical text. The study proposes a new methodology for analysing the biblical anthroponym in a poetic text.

... the mechanisms of dream interpretation used by C. G. Jung. It is shown that they differ in depth. The surface level of linguistic consciousness is the focus of paronomasic connections between words in dream descriptions. Deeper levels are targeted by semantic mechanisms: associative, metaphorical, and metonymical ones. In these conditions, of special importance is the interpretation of symbols. These mechanisms serve as the basis for C. G. Jung’s method of dream interpretation.
