On the basis of Leo Tolstoy’s novel Resurrection, the author considers the text function of linguistic units expressing the meaning of situational modality (possibility, desirability, necessity), as well as their role in the depiction of the moral revival of personality.

Official and business documents published in modern Russian and Polish periodicals serves as the material for analyzing the expression plane of necessity microfield. The authors identify its central and peripheral components, as well as common properties and intralinguistic features in the set of expressive means of the given microfield.

The texts of the Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedmosti (Saint-Petersburg Bulletin) newspaper of the second quarter of the 18th century serve as the material for the analysis of structural and content features of conditional sentences in the context of their role in expressing basic modal meanings and author’s intentions.

This article is dedicated to a little-known work of a Kholmogory priest, A.N. Grandilevsky on Kurostrov settlements of the Kholmogory district of the Arkhangelsk region – the birthplace of M.V. Lomonosov. The book created in the early 20th century is defined as corresponding to the modern principles of linguistic-cultural locus description.

The author presents the result of research into the speech of indigent population of Arkhangelsk aimed at identifying informants of dialect lexical units in view of  social stratification. The data obtained show that dialect lexical units are still functionally active, but their frequency in groups formed according to the education principles differs considerably.

The hagiographical image of Svyatopolk is analysed as one determined by Christian anthropology. The author asserts that Svyatopolk performs an evil deed neither due to predestination, nor under the influence of fatal circumstances, but of his own free will. Svyatopolk embodies the model of a person of string will, which is opposed to the will of God and leads the character to captivity of the devil.

This article considers the enlightenment strategy of Yekaterina the Second aimed at introducing the nobility to basic values, in particular, family consolidation and devotion to the interests of the state. A literature means of implementing this strategy was the comedies of Yekaterina II, which combined the satirical depiction of court morals and a mockery of human weaknesses.

This article considers the genre poetics of the novels by the Polish writer of Belarusian descent, Sergiusz Piasecki. The authors identify the features of artistic incarnation of the actual autobiographical material, the genre forming role of Belarusian and Russian substrata, the influence of the tradition of Russian classical novel, as well as the manifestation of the elements of adventure and ideological novels.
