The image of the narrator embodies the opposition between the catego-ries of faith and doubt shaping the inner collision of the short story.

... presents a comprehensive analysis of the novel of the Polish émigré author Erzy Kosiński written in the English language. The image of the main character is considered in the typological comparison with the prece-dent images of world literature; the plot and composition structure is de-scribed; the genre is identified. Using the analysis of the novel’s key episodes, the article stresses the meaning-creating function of the reflection technique. The receptive field of the novel is identified.

On the eurysemy of adjectives in the modern English language
The English adjective GOOD is under study in the article. Samples of its meanings found in dictionaries are compared with those from the Oxford English Corpus. As a result of the contrastive analysis, considerable changes were found. This spectrum of differences as well as combinative potential of GOOD gave occasion to rubricate this adjective as eurysemic.

The image of St Nicholas in the translated Byzantine biography is analysed in order to identify the type of humble behaviour. The author examines the plot-based means of describing the character of the saint and comes to a conclusion about an equal combination of meekness and audacity in his humble behaviour, which is explained by the personal qualities of the saint and his feat.
