The justification of legal punishment in Kant’s philosophy
... compatible with Kant’s statement that punishment is a categorical imperative. Futhermore, it is shown that this statement is crucial and necessary for Kant’s universalist project of justification of right. At the same time, it is shown that it is the universalism of Kant’s practical philosophy that leads to a kind of paradox of punishment: the categorical imperative of punishment might well demand those very actions which the categorical imperative as we know it from the “Groundwork” seems to ...
Kantian motives in logic and philosophy of science. The idea of unity of a priory and empirical elements of cognition
Kant insisted on the inherent unity of a priori and empirical elements of cognition. To what extent further progress of philosophy and exact sciences confirmed (or modified) original Kant ideas? I'm inclined to judge that apriorism in its modest version does not contradict a modest type of empiricism. Real practice of logical and mathematical reasoning provides pry conjunctions of a priori and empirical elements of cognitive processes. We can find the harmonic combinations of mentioned standpoints...

The policy of cosmopolitism: from universalism to pluralism
This article is devoted to the search for an adequate justification for the modern policy of cosmopolitism. The author maintains that the legitimation of cosmopolitism is of rather cultural than political nature. Liberal cultural pluralism based on universal political and legal principles (Kant and Rawls) proves to be insufficient. However, it provides the means to solve the problems and to avoid the extremes of cultural cosmopolitism, such as the European “negative identity”, juridification,...

The genitive of quality as used in typological characterisation of a person
This paper describes the syntactic model termed as the adnominal genitive of quality, as well as its use in the archetypisation of a person. It is argued that the semantics of a noun functioning as an adnominal attribute produces two types of cultural-linguistic archetypes. An attribute noun referring to a sphere of moral or behavioural characteristics (‘человек слова’, ‘man of success’, ‘człowiek honoru’) is associated with the model of the ethnocultural archetype; a meaning relating to a period...

Intercultural mediation in the context of globalization and migrant crisis
Modern society is predetermined with the policy of multiculturalism, which has proved its failure lately. The renewed demands for intercultural mediators require а need to evolve from mere tolerance to empathy in the process of communication with members of other cultures. A significant indicator of a new understanding of tolerance and adaptation to new conditions is mediation rather than the indifferent ‘tolerant’ acceptance of inappropriate behaviour.
