... 2021, i. e., 19 species of higher plants and 20 species of macroalgae. Depending on the abiotic factors in the four hydrological regions of the lagoon, the floristic diversity and distribution of macrophytes has its own characteristics. The maximum species diversity (29 species), as well as the biomass of macrophytes, are characteristic of the eastern region, characterized by minimal salinity values and a high level of nutrients.

Hemozoin accumulation associated with Opisthorchis felineus infection and the analysis of its role in changing the bile ducts microbiota
... Samples of mature forms of O. felineus are also included in the study. In accordance with the results obtained, hemozoin accumulates mainly in the liver during the invasion of O. felineus. The invasion of O. felineus leads to an increase in the alpha diversity of the bile duct microbiota in animals, and this effect is not associated with the presence of hemozoin in the bile ducts. Metagenomic analysis revealed that the most representative taxa in the mature forms of O. felineus are Sphingomonas, Prevotella,...
New data on the chironomid (Diptera: Chironomidae) fauna in the water bodies of the Kaliningrad region
The authors analyse the chironomid fauna of four water bodies in city of Kaliningrad: Lakes Penkovoe, Pond Isakovsky, Pond Shkolny and the Karasevka pond system. The article describes the species diversity, quantity characteristics, and seasonal dynamics of chronomid population and gives an assessment of water quality on the basis of the species diversity data obtained.

Disturbance of the vaginal microbiome and the risk of HIV infection in women: analysis of scientific studies
... new HIV infections and the persistence of the HIV pandemic. A key determinant of susceptibility to HIV infection is the composition of the vaginal microbiome, which can influence the local immune cell population and inflammation status. While a low diversity microbial composition dominated by Lactobacillus crispatus is associated with a reduced risk of HIV infection, a high microbial diversity environment associated with bacterial vaginosis increases the risk of HIV infection. Given the important ...
