CHECKLIST FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

When submitting a manuscript to the editorial board, authors must ensure that the following conditions are met:

  • The manuscript has not been previously published in another journal;
  • The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal;
  • Full URLs, including DOI links and EDNs (where applicable), are provided in the reference list;
  • All co-authors have approved the manuscript and consent to its submission and publication;
  • The authors have read and accepted the terms of the license agreement — a public offer for the transfer of usage rights;
  • A signed and scanned consent form for personal data processing (completed individually by each author) is uploaded as a supplementary file;
  • The manuscript file is submitted in Microsoft Word (DOCX or DOC), RTF, or ODT format and complies with the submission guidelines outlined in the “For Authors” section.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1.     The manuscript must be original and must not have been published previously in whole or in part. By submitting the manuscript, the author agrees not to submit it elsewhere without prior consent from the editorial board.

2.     The article must be relevant, original, and clearly structured. It should include a problem statement, research objectives, a description of key findings, and conclusions. The content must align with the journal’s thematic and formatting requirements.

3.     The journal follows a "Your Paper, Your Way" policy. At initial submission, strict formatting is not required, but the manuscript must include all essential elements: title, abstract, keywords, structured main text, and references. Tables and figures must be legible. If accepted, the manuscript must be formatted in accordance with journal requirements.

4.     All submissions undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Manuscripts are also screened for plagiarism using Antiplagiat software. Publication decisions are based on these evaluations.

5.     Recommended manuscript lengths:

·       Review articles: ≥ 60,000 characters (with spaces)

·       Original articles: ≥ 40,000 characters

·       Short communications: ≤ 20,000 characters

6.     The reference list must include:

·       At least 25 sources for original articles

·       60–110 sources for review articles

·       At least 15 sources for short communications
At least 75% of the references must be recent international publications (published within the past five years). Self-citation should not exceed 10%. Digital identifiers (DOI, PMID, EDN) must be included where applicable. Unpublished works, preprints, dissertations, and textbooks are not permitted. Regulatory/legal documents, GOST standards, conference materials, and online resources must be cited in footnotes with access dates in brackets.

7.     Manuscripts must be submitted via the Unified Editorial Board portal of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University. Authors must register and follow the “Submit an Article Online” instructions.

8.     The Editor-in-Chief makes final publication decisions based on reviewer and editorial board recommendations.

9.     No publication fees are charged.

10. Each author may publish no more than one article per issue.

11. If the manuscript is based on a preprint, this must be indicated at the time of submission.

12. Submission through the journal’s website (https://journals.kantiana.ru/) constitutes acceptance of the public license agreement for usage rights transfer, as per Article 438 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. A signed printed license is not required. A license agreement template (public offer) is available on the journal’s website. Each author must upload a scanned, signed consent form for personal data processing through the submission system.

STRUCTURE AND FORMATTING OF COPYRIGHT MATERIALS

The manuscript must include the following:

1.     Publication type: Original Article / Review Article / Short Communication

2.     Title in Russian and English (max. 12 words)

3.     Abstract in Russian and English (200–250 words), following the IMRAD structure:

·       Introduction to the research topic

·       Research objectives

·       Methodology

·       Main results and conclusions

·       The abstract must not duplicate the title or main text and must not include figures, tables, footnotes, or specific data. Only standard abbreviations are allowed.

4.     Keywords (up to 8) and a list of abbreviations (in alphabetical order). Avoid excessive abbreviation.

5.     Structured main text. If the IMRAD structure is unsuitable, the article must be divided into clearly labelled thematic sections. The introduction (not labelled) must present the research relevance, novelty, objectives, and tasks. Theoretical and review articles may adopt alternative structures, but must include an introduction and logically organized main sections.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Methods should be described in sufficient detail to allow for replication. Information on equipment, including model, manufacturer, and country of origin, as well as details of reagents (manufacturer and country), should be provided in separate paragraphs.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
These sections may be presented together, provided that redundancy between the text and visual materials is avoided. Unpublished data should not be cited.

Acknowledgements – for technical or institutional support

Funding – grant numbers, project names, and full institution names

Ethical Standards – statement of ethical compliance or indication that no such research was conducted

Competing Interests – disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest

Authors’ Contributions – description of individual author roles (e.g., conceptualization, data analysis, manuscript drafting)

TEXTUAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Common abbreviations (e.g., ATP, DNA) do not require expansion.
  • Use SI units. Time units: s, min, h, d (no periods). Leave a space between numbers and units (e.g., 4 kg), except in cases like 5 °C or 8%.
  • Use a period as the decimal separator (e.g., 15.73).
  • Number formulas only when cited in the text; align numbers to the right.
  • Complex formulas must be submitted as images in TIFF, JPEG, PSD, or PDF format.
  • Italicize gene names (e.g., fos); proteins are capitalized and not italicized (e.g., Fos).
  • Italicize Latin terms (e.g., in vitro). Species names are italicized; the author’s name is not.
