Propositional nominant as a special type of a language sign

Abstract

The article shows why we single out the propositional nominant as a special type of a language sign. The nomination process of functionally structured events is considered in onomasiological strategy. The interpretation of the problem stated in this article's title is carried out on the base of functionally structured sign with the signified as a simple sentence with a verbal predicate.

Dynamics of syntactic sense realisation and conceptual shifts at the periphery of syntactic fields

Abstract

This article deals with the process of conceptual shift that creates a syntactic field with its nucleus and peryphery. In the latter the superposition of prototypically opposed meanings and concepts substitutes for the polysemy of syntactic units, thus resulting in the overlap of syntactic fields. In this process vocabulary is of great importance.

Cognitive-semantic modelling of the metaphoric choice devices

Abstract

The articles addresses the metaphor as a cognitive-semantic device. Metaphor is able to shed light on intuitive and creative mechanisms of thinking process, thus filling the blanks in the fund of logically objective human knowledge, which opens the possibility to describe abstract concepts of human mind in terms.

Pronominal address in Swedish and English

Abstract

The aim of the present work is to study and compare the use of pronouns for second person reference in English and Swedish in terms of the
two dimensions, power and solidarity, suggested by Brown & Gilman (1960) and the theory of politeness by Brown & Levinson. The history of
expression of esteem by personal pronouns is traced through as well.
