A look in the past and the problems of modern mathematical education

Abstract

This article considers the features of mathematical education in Russia in the 18th-19th centuries. The focal point is the significance of children’s physical activity for the development of spatial perception and mathematical thinking. The author makes recommendations on the development of motivation in schoolchildren for studying mathematics and the use of interdisciplinary approach to developing mathematical thinking and arousing interest in acquiring mathematical knowledge.

The aptitude of university academic staff for managing social and legal activities of students

Abstract

An increase in social activity in society emphasizes the need for scientific and theoretical understanding of the phenomenon of social and legal activity per se, as well as the process of managing its manifestations at educational institutions. The authors analyze the results of a study into the aptitude of federal university teachers for managing social and legal activity of students. The data obtained can be used for increasing teachers’ qualification.

Poor academic performance at university from the perspective of graduates

Abstract

This article considers approaches to research on poor academic performance at higher educational institutions as a didactic phenomenon. The authors address the need to prevent poor academic performance and structure the training process so that the potential of each student is fully developed. The article analyses the data of surveys of radio engineering graduates of Kaliningrad Border Service Institute of the Federal Security Service of Russia, which put emphasis on the problems of academic performance and correction of knowledge obtained.

The international experience of integration of education, research, and business

Abstract

The article considers three main types of integration of education, science and business. There are: American type, Japanese type and Mixed type. The main role in American type of integration plays Research University; the main role in Japanese type plays Government; the main role in Mixed type (mostly prevalence are in Central and Northern Europe) plays technological parks. The article considers merits and demerits of these types.

The component analysis and content of the methodological materials for teaching foreign languages from the perspective of changing educational environment

Abstract

A changing educational environment (CEE) is a new, little studied type of local environment. This article identifies and considers the components of CEE, which serves as the basis for a component analysis of the content of a textbook on Russian as a foreign language for teaching German-speaking students of basic level. The author emphasises that CEE has a positive influence on the discipline’s methodology.
