Construction works impact on the vegetation in the сoastal zone of the Pregolya river in Kaliningrad
... to the anthropogenic transformation of the coastal area from 2013 to 2018. The work identifies the modern structure of the Pregolya eco-systems. The research included standard methods of studying the aquatic vegetation. The lower current of the river Pregolya within the Kaliningrad city borders is studied for the period from 2013—2019. The associations are named in the traditions of the dominant system. It is established that the total number of species in the direct impact zone and downstream ...

Modelling long-term dynamics of humus content in the mixed forests soils in the Pregel River Basin
The long-term dynamics of humus in the mixed forests soils of in the Pregolya River Basin was modeled and analyzed for 1960—2015. Evapotranspiration values were calculated and a dynamics analysis of this parameter for period 1960—2015 was carried out. The impact of changes in meteorological factors on dynamics of forest phytomass ...
Nutrient Fluxes from the Pregolya Catchment Area into the Vistula Lagoon
The Vistula Lagoon of the Baltic Sea is one the most productive water bodies in Europe. The Pregolya River comprises the main part of the Vistula Lagoon's catchment area where the biggest cities and towns of the Kaliningrad Region are situated. The aim of the research is to estimate the nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) flux from the Pregolya River's ...
The variations in the water level of the Pregel River in Kaliningrad (1996-2008)
The critical water levels, rises and falls of the Pregolya River are determined on the basis of daily observations performed at the "Vityaz" museum vessel in 1996—2008. The observed phenomena reveal maximum frequency in autumn and winter.

Mercury content in fish caught in the Northern Dvina below a pulp and paper mill
Subarctic Russian rivers tend to have swampy watersheds with a high content of hydrogen ions and humic substances. These conditions are favourable for the formation of bioavailable mercury. Thus, even background mercury concentrations can pose a danger to aquatic organisms....

... and long-term variability. The launch of modern treatment facilities in 2016 led to a significant reduction in pollution in the Primorskaya Bay. However, in recent years, an increase in pollution has been observed in the eastern region, where the main river runoff (from the Pregolya River) enters and where the new discharge of Kaliningrad's treatment facilities is located. The level of eutrophication and phytoplankton abundance (chlorophyll concentration) influences the calculated water pollution ...

However, this approach is poorly applicable to the Curonian Lagoon, the delta of the River Neman, and the adjacent coastal area. Only when these elements are analysed as a single whole, one can see the problems of the region in their entirety. This article is the very first attempt to provide an overview of possible ways to use the Russian ...

Through pairwise correlation analysis of the examined characteristics, the closest connections were found between two pairs: the width of the leaf ...
Geological conditions for submarine groundwater discharge in the South-Eastern Baltic
... Groundwater has hydrochemical characteristics that are different from sea water, which is reflected in the chemical composition of bottom sediments and waters. In addition, underground runoff from the aquifers of the zone of active water exchange, along with river runoff and atmospheric deposition, can serve as a significant factor in the pollution of the marine environment. However, the Russian sector of the Southeast Baltic is very poorly studied in relation to submarine discharge. Meanwhile, the features ...

Current issues in assessing the environmental damage caused by water pollution in a water-scarce region
This article analyses the problem of ecological damage assessment and estmiates realted human effect based on the methodology of identifying pre¬vented ecological damage for a water-scarce region in the case of the Ural River basin. Calculations use regional per-unit damage data – cost assessments of damage per a unit of the pollutant mass. The causes oe negative uham effect on water resources and water-scarce regions in Russia are identifiied.

The status of geomorphologic knowledge of the territory of the Kaliningrad region
This article examines the genesis of disputed geomorphologic zones. The authors propose identifying the Sambian end moraine site on the Sambian peninsula. It has been established that the right bank of the River Instruch is not an end moraine ridge, whereas the Neman – Sesupe interfluve is a relict alluvian plain. The genesis of the Polessk lowland and a number of geomorphological borders require further study.

A numerical assessment of the filtration rate of these molluscs shows that they can filter daily an average of 2.41 ± 1.01 m3 of water per a square meter of the river bed. During the vegetation season, molluscs can clear approximately 380 m3 of water in estuaries removing up to 558.9 ± 65.7 g of suspended organic matters.

The study is based on the materials from De Bezige Bij Publishing House in the Netherlands, comparing the periods of 2010—2013 and 2020—2023. A significant increase in the role of translators is reflected in the rise of translation share in the publishing house. There is an observed growth in the number of source languages for translation, with a decrease in the proportion of English. Translations...
