A programming language and translation
The article deals with some issues of translating technical, in particular, programming texts. The author pays special attention to the polysemy of certain English IT terms. An important problem is adapting such terms to the system of the target language. Translators working in IT are required to have extensive expertise in informatics. Only this will guarantee the choice of a translation strategy adequate for the task of pragmatic adaptation.

The translation of colloquial and low colloquial lexis into the Russian language: The semantic and stylistic aspects
The paper deals with some peculiarities of translating colloquial and lowcolloquial vocabulary functioning in the novels of S. Maugham into Russian. The features of translation equivalents are identified at the stylistic and semantic levels. The ways of compensating for the lost components of meaning are shown. In spite of that the colloquial and low-colloquial elements belong to typologically different languages, some similarities are observed at semantic and stylistic levels.

The «empire» category is determined in legal science by historical and political characteristics and based on multi-structural public traditions. Imperial administration strengthens the asymmetrical status of ethnic groups and regions in their relation to the centre. Their integration dynamics is preconditioned, first and foremost, by geopolitical and geo-economic factors. The author provides his own vision of the characteristics of imperial statehood.

This article offers a review of the activities of I.P. Khmelnitsky at the Königsberg University of the 1760s, examines the ideational and philosophical context, and identifies the role and position of Khmelnitsky in the intellectual polemics of the mid-18th century. The author emphasises that D. Weymann referred to Khmelnitsky’s works when debating with I. Kant.
