The major stages in wild vegetation development in the Neman deltaic landscape in the Holocene
The article provides new data on the development pattern of the Bolshoye Mokhovoye swamp (Grosses Moosbruch) which is the largest swamp in the Kaliningrad Region located in the southern part of the Neman Delta area. The authors consider peat bed structure, botanical composition of peat, peat accumulation rates in different periods of the Holocene and main stages of the swamp development. It has been determined that the swamp development process started in the middle of the Atlantic ( ...
Species composition and habitat ecology of sphagna: inventory and monitoring programme on the carbon polygon “Rossyanka” (Kaliningrad region, Russia)
The article provides data on the present-day species composition of Sphagna in the Wittgirrensky peatland (the territory of the Carbon Polygon “Rossyanka”, Slavsk District, Kaliningrad Region). The authors found 8 species of Sphagnum mostly growing in hydrophilic habitats at the bottom of drainage ditches and flooded depressions on the outskirts of the peatland, while the major part of the peatland shows unfavorable environmental conditions for the development of Sphagnum. The situation may well...
Development of the Zehlau ecosystem (based on the data on peat deposit structure)
This article presents new detailed data on the botanical composition of peat and the structure of peat deposits of the Zehlau raised bog. The authors investigate the history of the ecosystem and provide evidence for the idea that the bog developed through the paludification of a forest area, vast reed vegeta-tion, and rapid ...
The traces of Holocene events in the spore and pollen spectra of peat deposits in the southern part of the Kaliningrad Region
New data on the palaeoenvironment (vegetation and climate) in the southern part of the Kaliningrad Region were obtained through the processing of peat samples from Podlipovo peatland by means of pollen analysis. The results of the study indicate the prevalence of pine and birch forests in the early Holocene; the gradual introduction of broadleaved species occurred in the middle Holocene (the Atlantic)....

Vegetation succession in Svinoye Bog (south of the Curonian spit, Russia)
In this article, we present an analysis of the taxonomic diversity of plant macro-remnants retrieved from the peat deposits of Svinoye Bog in the southern part of the Curonian Spit, Russia. The initial mire formation stage is probably associated with the alder carrs and stretches of Phragmites, which were successively replaced by fen, transition mire, and raised ...
Composition and structure of plant communities in milled peatlands during the post-disturbance successions: a case study from the Rossyanka Carbon Supersite, Kaliningrad, Russia
Nine plant community types were identified in the central part of the Vittgirrensky Peatland (designated the Rossyanka Carbon Supersite). All community types represent successional stages of vegetation development on areas transformed by peat milling. Data on the structure and species composition of communities are provided, along ...
The geochronology of the Holocene vegetation deve¬lopment in the South-east Baltic region (based on the results of a paleogeographic study)
This article presents the results a of complex palaeogeographical study of Velikoye peat bog (the Šešupė River basin, the Kaliningrad region). The pollen analysis accompanied by radiocarbon dating, makes it possible to reconstruct the vegetation development, on the basis of which the climate changes in the South-east Baltic region ...
