Human Resources of Post-war Lithuania and Their Role in the Rebuilding of Klaipeda
This article focuses on the issues of post-WWII economic restoration effort in the Soviet Lithuania. German occupation of the republic caused significant damage to its industry and agriculture. To reach this objective, however, Lithuania required qualified workforce. Before the war, hardly any attention was paid to the...

Territorial structure of inbound and domestic tourism in the Baltic States
... capital regions: Vilnius county (Lithuania) and Northern Estonia (Estonia).
The semi-peripheral regions differ in two respects. West Estonia, for example, is home to the resort town of Pärnu and the Kuressaare Castle on the island of Saaremaa, a UNESCO World Heritage contender. In Kaunas County,...

In the marine economy, this was Russia’s heavy post-Soviet dependence as regards transport and logistics on major seaports in newly independent neighbouring states: Odessa, Klaipėda, Ventspils and others. These ports handled 40 % of Russia’s maritime cargo traffic [19]. As to regional policy, prompt action was needed on the Kaliningrad region, a territory detached from mainland Russia. Since the 1990s, its exclavity has ...

Border Position as a Factor of Strategic and Territorial Planning in Russian Regions in the Baltic
In the conditions of globalization, Russian border regions can form transborder regions through cooperation with the neighbouring territories of other states. The optimisation of spatial organisation of economy, social sphere, and nature management using the tools of spatial planning is fully justified in the case of transborder regions as well as in that of national ones. However, in Russia, spatial (strategic and territorial) planning does not imply joint development of documents with the border...
Amber as an economic and cultural phenomenon in the history of the Aesti and Prussians
This article emphasises that, in the history of the early Balts (the Aesti and Prussians), amber was a principal means of trade that was exchanged for necessary goods from Europe. In these conditions, amber played a dual role: on the one hand, it stimulated trade connections between the Balts and other peoples, on the other hand, it decelerated their own cultural and technological development. The author’s assumptions are corroborated by archaeological data.
