The author explores the relationship of the notions ‘collective memory’ and ‘cultural memory. Anthroponyms represented in the brothers Grimm’s sagas are analysed as exponents of cultural memory. The main focus is on the functions of anthroponyms in the semantic structure of the sagas texts.
In the XXI century, the prevailing trend towards analytical forms creates absolutely new conditions for adverbial vocabulary development in general and confix adverb development in particular. The article considers semantic, structural and syntactical classification of substantive-adverbial phrases belonging to the thematic group “Dish recipes”, many of which include confix adverbs. The article considers the peculiarities of these structures in the diachronic perspective. The author analyses contexts from an Internet discourse and concludes that the presence of confix adverbs is a sign of lingua-creative activity of native speakers in the XXI century.
The author explores the ways of expressing emotions in the literary text using the novel ‘La carte et le territoire’ by Michel Houellebecq as an example. The main problem of research is the identification of specific way of expressing emotions in the literary text. The author proceeds from the assumption that interjections as well as emotive and affective lexical units play an important role in the representation of emotions. Comparatively low percentage of interjections, and frequent use of affective words and syntactic means for expressing emotions demonstrate an important peculiarities of the literary text- a limited use of emotive means compared to the ones used in oral speech. Thus, lexical and syntactic means of expressing emotions in the literary text appear to be more effective and more productive compared with interjections and phonetic means.
The paper reviews the issues of eliminating gaps (lacunae) in legal terminology in dynamics, describes certain stages in gradual introduction of some borrowed terms into professional and common language, and specifies the role of translation as an instrument of eliminating lacunae. Deeper insight into the process of borrowing new terminology results in a more adequate translation, and, consequently, contributes to a better understanding of terms by both lawyers and ordinary users.
The author performs a comparative analysis of contemporary and previous names of settlements in the Kaliningrad region. The place names often reflect highly important historical events or are the names of outstanding people. Old German place names were changed in the 1940s of the 20th century. The author highlights the semantics of the toponymic units and the ways of their correlation.
